The service
The everyday jobs, done to the same standard
General plumbing covers everything that carries water around the house and everything that takes it away again. Taps and mixers, toilets and cisterns, basins, baths and showers, stopcocks and isolation valves, waste pipes and traps, ballvalves, washing machine and dishwasher connections, outside taps, and repairs or re-routes to supply pipework.
These are small jobs, and small jobs are exactly where standards slip in this trade. Half a day gets treated as too minor to bother covering the floor for, isolating properly, or coming back to finish. We work the same way on a dripping tap as on a full heating installation: turn up at the time agreed, protect the area, do the job once, test it, and take the mess away.
We work for homeowners, landlords and letting agents across Trafford, Manchester, Salford and Stockport, and we handle both reactive jobs and planned work — the list of five small things a house has accumulated, tackled in one visit instead of five.
Who it's for
- Homeowners with a list of small jobs they want dealt with in one visit
- Anyone tired of tradespeople who don't turn up or don't finish
- Landlords and agents needing reliable reactive plumbing on rentals
- Households fitting new appliances that need supply and waste connections
- People with a persistent drip, running toilet or slow waste nobody has fixed
When you need it
- Taps dripping, running toilets or a cistern that won't stop filling
- Slow or blocked wastes, gurgling traps or a smell from a drain
- A stopcock that is seized and won't shut off in an emergency
- Appliance installs needing new supply, waste or isolation valves
- Pipework knocking, whistling or in the way of building work
What happens if it's left
Small plumbing jobs getexpensive when they're left
Nothing in plumbing stays the same size. A drip becomes a stained ceiling, a running toilet becomes a water bill, and a seized stopcock becomes the reason a burst pipe empties into your kitchen for forty minutes instead of forty seconds.
Water bills you don't notice paying
A continuously running toilet or a leaking overflow wastes a substantial volume every single day. On a metered supply it is a cost that quietly repeats for years.
Damage to floors, ceilings and cabinets
A slow leak under a sink or behind a bath rots the carcass, lifts flooring and stains the ceiling below long before anyone sees standing water.
No way to stop it when it matters
The moment to discover your stopcock is seized is not while water is coming through a light fitting. Isolation is the cheapest insurance in the house.
Mistakes that cost people money
- Tightening a dripping tap harder until the seat is damaged beyond repair
- Using sealant or tape to patch a joint instead of remaking it
- Ignoring a slow waste until the blockage is solid and the trap is damaged
- Having no working isolation valves, so any small job drains the whole system
- Connecting a washing machine to an unsuitable waste and getting siphonage
- Leaving an outside tap unisolated and unlagged over winter
Our process
The same five steps
on every job
Tell us the job
A description and a couple of photos are usually enough to know what parts to bring, which avoids a wasted visit and a second appointment.
Appointment agreed
A time is agreed and kept. Standard hours are 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and the phone is answered anytime for emergencies.
Assess & price
We look at the job on site, confirm what is actually wrong and tell you the price before starting rather than after finishing.
The work
Area protected, water isolated, job done properly with the right fittings, and isolation valves added where they are missing so future work is simple.
Test & clear up
Everything tested under pressure and under use, the area cleaned, waste taken away, and the workmanship guaranteed for 12 months.
What you actually get
Six things that change
once the work is done
Turning up when we say
A time is agreed and kept. If something changes you get told, which should be the baseline in this trade and frequently isn't.
One visit, several jobs
Save the list up and have it dealt with together — far better value than paying a call-out for each individual item.
Proper parts, proper fittings
Ceramic cartridges, correct traps, compression or press fittings as appropriate — no bodges held together with tape and hope.
Isolation for the future
Valves fitted where they are missing so the next repair takes minutes and doesn't involve draining the house.
A clean finish
Floors covered, old parts taken away, and no silicone smeared over what should have been a neat joint.
Guaranteed workmanship
Twelve months on all workmanship, backed by £2m insurance and an independently reviewed Checkatrade record.
What we fix, the materialswe use and how we work
General plumbing is a wide category. This is what it covers in practice across the Manchester housing stock we work in, from Victorian terraces with lead-era pipework to modern flats with plastic push-fit throughout.
Taps, mixers and brassware
Most dripping taps are a worn ceramic cartridge or a damaged seat, and the fix depends on which. Modern mixers usually take a cartridge; older pillar taps need re-seating or replacing. Where a tap has been over-tightened for months the seat is often too damaged to save, and we will say so rather than charging for a repair that lasts a fortnight.
Replacing kitchen and bathroom taps sounds trivial and often isn't — seized backnuts on a fifteen-year-old basin in a tight space is the classic example. Isolation valves go on the supplies during any tap change so the next one is a ten-minute job.
Toilets, cisterns and wastes
A running toilet is usually a failed fill valve or a flush valve seal that no longer sits properly. Both are inexpensive parts, and both waste water continuously until replaced. Concealed cisterns need access panels planned in — where one has been tiled over we will tell you what is involved before cutting anything.
Blocked and slow wastes are cleared and, importantly, the cause is identified. A trap that blocks every few months is usually a fall problem or an unsuitable connection, and clearing it repeatedly is treating the symptom.
Pipework, materials and isolation
We work in copper with soldered, press or compression joints, and in barrier plastic where it is the appropriate material for concealed or awkward runs. The choice is driven by location, accessibility and what the existing system is built from, not by whichever is quickest.
Isolation is the thing most houses are short of. A functioning stopcock, service valves at appliances and isolation on each bathroom and kitchen fitting turns future work from a whole-house drain-down into a five-minute job. We add valves as a matter of course while we are already in there.
Older properties still occasionally have lead supply pipe. Where we find it, we tell you plainly what it is and what replacing the internal section involves.
Appliances, outside taps and garden supplies
Washing machines and dishwashers need correct supply connections and a waste arrangement that will not siphon or back up. Getting the standpipe height and trap arrangement right is the difference between an appliance that drains cleanly and one that smells.
Outside taps are fitted with an internal isolation valve and a check valve, so the supply can be shut off and drained before winter. It is a small job that prevents a burst in the wall every few years.
Noise, pressure and flow problems
Banging pipes when a tap shuts are usually water hammer from a fast-closing valve on a poorly clipped run. Re-clipping and, where needed, fitting an arrestor solves it. Whistling is typically a partially closed valve or a restriction at a fitting.
Low pressure or poor flow at one outlet is generally a local restriction — a blocked aerator, a partially closed service valve or a scaled cartridge. Low pressure throughout the house points at the incoming main or the stopcock, which we test rather than guess at.
Landlords, agents and rental properties
Rental plumbing is judged on responsiveness. Tenants report a problem, and the longer it stays unfixed the more it costs — both in damage and in the relationship. We take instructions from landlords and agents, arrange access with tenants directly, and report back on what was found.
Where reactive work reveals something bigger — a failing cylinder, an ageing boiler or pipework near the end of its life — you get told, with a price, so it can be planned rather than repeated as call-outs.
Emergencies and what counts as one
Leaks, no heat and no hot water are treated as emergencies, and the phone is answered anytime on 07398 230231. Everything else is booked into standard hours, which keeps emergency response available for people who genuinely need it.
If you have an active leak, close the stopcock first and ring. Knowing where your stopcock is, and that it turns, is the single most useful piece of plumbing knowledge a householder can have.

Common questions
General Plumbing questions,
answered straight
Do you take small jobs?+
Yes. Taps, toilets, valves and wastes are routine work. If you have several small jobs, save them up and we will deal with them in one visit, which is far better value than separate call-outs.
Are you gas-registered as well as plumbers?+
Yes — we carry out gas work including boiler installation, servicing, repairs and landlord gas safety certificates, alongside general plumbing.
How quickly can you come out?+
Standard hours are 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday. For emergencies — leaks, no heat or no hot water — the phone is answered anytime on 07398 230231.
Why does my toilet keep running?+
Almost always a failed fill valve or a flush valve seal. Both are inexpensive to replace and both waste water continuously until they are.
My stopcock won't turn — can you replace it?+
Yes, and it is worth doing before you need it. A seized stopcock means you cannot isolate the house in an emergency, which turns a small burst into a large one.
Can you fit an outside tap?+
Yes, with an internal isolation valve and a check valve so it can be shut off and drained before winter.
Why do my pipes bang when I turn a tap off?+
Water hammer, usually caused by a fast-closing valve on pipework that is not properly clipped. Re-clipping the run and fitting an arrestor where needed resolves it.
Do you work for landlords and letting agents?+
Yes. We take instructions from landlords and agents, arrange access with tenants directly and report back on what was found and done.
Is your work guaranteed?+
All workmanship carries a 12-month guarantee. We are a verified Checkatrade member with £2 million public and employers' liability insurance.
Which areas do you cover?+
Stretford, Sale, Old Trafford, Urmston, Flixton, Davyhulme, Manchester city centre, Altrincham, Hale, Stockport, Cheadle, Bramhall, Wilmslow, the Heatons, Eccles, Worsley, Swinton, Prestwich and Whitefield.
